Future.

They both lay, staring up at the stars.

“This is the first time I can see them so clearly.” She shivered a little as the wind started blowing, and she could see the goosebumps erupt on her arm.

He shifted his weight so they both were touching. And suddenly, she wasn’t so cold anymore. A single touch from him, and she could feel the warmth all over her body, down to her tips.

“This feels nice, doesn’t it?” He asked. “Finally being with each other.”

She smiled. “You’re a habit that refuses to go away.”

“Are you sure you want me to go away?” He laughed.

The air caught in her throat. He’d meant it as a joke, but his words meant something different to her.

“Can’t believe school’s ending. God.” She said, trying to change the subject.

“Yes, me too. Can’t believe I won’t get to see you everyday.”

“Awwwww. You’ll miss meeeee.”

“Of course I will. But who knows what’s going to happen?”

“What do you mean by that?”

“You know, we’ll go to different cities, meet new people, new chapter and all that.”

“And what about this chapter? OUR chapter?”

“Hey, what do you mean?”

She sat up, facing him. “So you mean to see if we go to different cities, this particular chapter will just be closed?”

“I’m just being practical.”

“Oh wow. Please listen to yourself and what you’re sounding like.”

She felt something dangerously close to tears brushing her eyes, so she started to get up. But before she could, his hand was around her wrist pulling her down.

“Look at me.”

She looked down.

His fingers found her chin, forcing her to look at his eyes.

She thought of how much she loved his eyes. They were light brown that lighted up when he was talking about something he loved, and went all intense when he looked at her. And then she thought of how it’d feel not to see them for months on end. She couldn’t stop the tears.

“I didn’t say I want this chapter to end. I just felt it was too much to ask you to wait for me, instead of living your life.”

“I can’t believe you’d doubt what I feel for you in this way.”

He smiled. “I don’t want us to end, ever. Okay? I don’t think I believe in infinities and forever, but ah well. You’ve got me thinking that what we have is so fucking special, it can’t come to an end. Forever has to exist.”
